Indianapolis, Indiana – Scattered storms will linger across south-central Indiana through Sunday night, but the real weather trouble begins Monday afternoon as strong to severe thunderstorms sweep across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, precipitation chances will surge above 70% across central Indiana starting at noon Monday, with peak storm activity expected between 3 p.m. and midnight. Damaging winds remain the greatest threat, though isolated flooding from slow-moving storms is also a concern.

Cities including Indianapolis, Bloomington, Lafayette, and Terre Haute could see significant rain totals and gusty winds during the Monday evening commute. The NWS warns that storms may be strongest after 6 p.m., with some cells capable of producing severe wind damage.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and stay off highways during heavy downpours. Keep devices charged and have a plan if severe weather disrupts power. While tornadoes are not a primary threat, wind gusts could exceed 60 mph in some areas.

Conditions are expected to improve early Tuesday as drier air moves in, offering a break from the stormy pattern. Additional updates or alerts may be issued if storm strength increases Monday.
