Indianapolis Storm Update: Scattered Thunderstorms Possible Through Tuesday

Indianapolis, Indiana – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across central Indiana this afternoon and continue intermittently through Tuesday night, bringing periods of rain and lightning to much of the region. While severe weather is not anticipated, the National Weather Service warns that any storm could produce dangerous lightning and brief downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, showers will build after 5 p.m. Monday and intensify overnight. Winds may gust up to 18 mph, with additional rounds of rain and isolated thunderstorms possible into Tuesday evening. Areas most likely to see heavier rainfall include Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, Boone, and Hendricks counties.

By Wednesday, conditions turn calmer and cooler, with sunshine and highs near 68°F expected through the end of the workweek. Residents are advised to stay indoors during lightning activity, avoid flooded roads, and keep mobile devices charged in case of power interruptions.

No spotter activation is planned at this time, but the National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions for any developing threats.
