Indianapolis, IN – Heavy snow is returning to central Indiana this evening, bringing dangerous driving conditions along key roadways including I-70 and I-65 as gusty winds combine with rapidly intensifying snowfall. Visibility may drop to as low as a quarter mile in the heaviest bands of snow.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, snow began pushing in from the southwest around 5 p.m. and is now overspreading cities including Terre Haute, Brazil, and Indianapolis. The most significant impacts are expected along and north of the I-70 corridor, where accumulation rates are climbing and roads are turning slick fast. Snow may transition to a wintry mix or rain by late evening, but not before causing travel slowdowns and potential hazards.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, especially during the evening commute. Keep headlights on, reduce speeds, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. Side streets in Greencastle, Lebanon, and Noblesville may also become hazardous as snow bands move northeast.

Visibility will continue to fluctuate through tonight as gusty winds pick up, creating periods of near-whiteout conditions. Additional advisories may be issued as storm intensity evolves.
