Indianapolis, IN – Four individuals were arrested early Saturday morning following a downtown Indianapolis shooting that left one man hospitalized, according to police.
On September 27, 2025, just before 2:30 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers heard gunfire near the 100 block of East South Street. Police say they found two vehicles hit by bullets, multiple shell casings, and later confirmed that an adult male arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound believed to be from the incident.
At the scene, officers detained two men who were allegedly seen hiding firearms. IMPD identified them as 30-year-old Joshua Vaughn, wanted on a Hamilton County warrant, and 23-year-old Ron Paul, arrested for unlawful handgun possession with a prior conviction.
As police secured the area, a car reportedly tied to the shooting sped away from the parking lot, nearly striking officers. IMPD pursued the vehicle and arrested 26-year-old Dajaymeon Cantrell after a chase near Shelby Street. Two other suspects fled on foot, with one later identified as 25-year-old James Gary Jr., who was taken into custody at a residence.
A search of the vehicle revealed a firearm, accessories, and suspected drug-dealing evidence. Police said the weapon matched the caliber of shell casings found at the original crime scene. Cantrell and Gary Jr. face drug and resisting law enforcement charges.
Detectives continue reviewing video evidence and forensic testing to determine involvement in the shooting. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make final charging decisions.
