Indianapolis, IN – A disturbance call involving a man armed with a gun led to an officer-involved shooting Saturday evening on the city’s north side, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

Police said the incident began around 6:23 p.m. on September 20, 2025, when officers responded to reports of a man threatening employees with a firearm inside a business near 2425 E. 38th Street. The 34-year-old suspect allegedly threatened to kill one worker, officers reported.

According to IMPD, when officers returned to the suspect, a struggle broke out. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged inside the restaurant, prompting an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was not struck by gunfire.

Police said the man fled the business but was captured moments later near 39th Street and Tacoma Avenue. At least one nearby vehicle was damaged by gunfire, but no community members were injured.

Detectives stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers involved were wearing activated body cameras, and multiple agencies, including the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and the IMPD Critical Incident Response Team, are investigating.

The officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on administrative leave, which IMPD said is standard procedure. A civilian-majority Use of Force Review Board will also review the case after the criminal investigation concludes.
