Indianapolis, Indiana – Snow showers moving across central Indiana this evening are creating hazardous travel conditions, with slick roads and rapidly changing visibility expected through early Thursday, especially during the overnight and morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the most persistent snow will focus on far north-central counties, where 1 to 3 inches of accumulation is expected. Across the Indianapolis metro, snow showers and flurries will bring lighter totals, generally a dusting up to one inch, but impacts could still be significant as temperatures hover near freezing.

Drivers along I-65, I-70, I-69, and I-465 should be prepared for slick spots on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Ice may develop beneath a thin coating of snow, making conditions especially treacherous late tonight into Thursday morning. Brief drops in visibility are possible during heavier snow showers, particularly north of Indianapolis toward Kokomo, Tipton, and Anderson.

INDOT crews are monitoring conditions, but road surfaces may change quickly as snow tapers late tonight. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time if heading out early Thursday.

Snow showers are expected to gradually diminish overnight, though slick spots may linger into the morning hours. Additional advisories could be issued if snow bands intensify farther south than currently expected.
