Indianapolis, Indiana – Rain is moving out of central Indiana right now, but a sharp drop in temperatures will bring freezing conditions within hours, creating a cold start by early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, showers will taper off through the morning, leaving behind cooler and drier air for the rest of Friday. Highs will only reach between 42 and 51 degrees across the region, including Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Muncie.

The bigger concern arrives overnight. Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid to upper 20s, with lows between 26 and 31 degrees by early Saturday morning. This could lead to frost development and isolated slick spots, especially on bridges and untreated roads along I-65, I-69, and I-70.

Saturday brings improving conditions with mostly sunny skies and highs rebounding into the upper 40s to low 50s. By Sunday, a stronger warmup pushes temperatures into the upper 50s to mid-60s statewide.

Residents should protect sensitive plants and use caution during early morning travel Saturday.

The cold snap will be brief, with a steady warming trend continuing into early next week as spring conditions return.
