Rain taps steadily on windshields across Indiana this morning, and wet pavement is already slowing traffic on I-65 and I-70. Expect periods of rain through the day, with visibility reduced at times by patchy fog and mist. Plan extra travel time through midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, rain chances sit near 90 percent today with highs near 50 degrees. Additional rainfall between a quarter and half an inch is possible before evening. Thunderstorms may develop after 4 p.m., adding brief downpours to the mix.

Across central Indiana, including Marion, Hamilton, and Johnson counties, showers will repeat into Wednesday. Another round of rain and embedded storms develops by late morning Wednesday, with highs climbing toward 60 degrees. By Wednesday night, totals could add another half inch or more in spots. Ponding on low-lying roads and poor drainage areas is possible.

Thursday brings even warmer air. Highs push into the mid-60s with scattered showers and a chance of thunder. Gusts may top 20 mph at times. Keep devices charged and avoid driving through water-covered roads.

For now, no severe weather is expected locally, but stronger storms will fire from Texas to Missouri midweek. Here at home, the bigger story is steady March rain and rising temperatures.

Looking ahead, early next week trends milder. Long-range guidance signals above-normal warmth building across much of the central U.S., hinting at early spring warmth into the second week of March.

We are one week from the clocks “springing ahead” at 2 a.m. Sunday. Daylight will stretch quickly now, adding nearly 70 minutes this month across Indiana.
