Indiana – Thick fog clings to I-465 and wet pavement glistens under gray skies as temperatures hover in the low 50s this morning. Visibility has dipped to around a half-mile at times, slowing traffic across Indianapolis and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered showers will intensify through midday, with isolated thunderstorms continuing into mid-morning. Large hail is the primary early threat. By late afternoon and into the evening, additional thunderstorms may turn severe. Damaging wind gusts pose the greatest risk, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Highs surge to 68 degrees before a sharp cooldown begins. Winds shift and increase tonight, with gusts near 29 mph. Showers linger into the evening, then taper as colder air filters in.
Skies clear Friday, but temperatures fall to the mid-40s with a brisk west wind. Saturday brings sunshine and a high near 45. Don’t let that fool you. A weak system arrives Saturday night with a slight chance of rain mixing with snow before 10 p.m., then a chance of light snow. Little accumulation is expected, but slick spots could develop if surfaces cool quickly. Flash freezing remains a concern this time of year as melted moisture refreezes after sunset.
Sunday stays mostly cloudy and cooler, with highs in the upper 30s. Early next week trends dry and chilly before moderating. Highs rebound into the 40s and low 50s by midweek, signaling a gradual warming trend.
