Indiana – A pale winter sun rises over damp pavement and drifting flakes as cold air tightens its grip across central Indiana. Light snow develops through the day, creating slick spots that may refreeze quickly once daylight fades. The bigger concern builds toward the weekend, when colder air and renewed snow chances raise the risk for black ice on untreated roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, light snow could bring up to 1 to 2 inches of accumulation, with wind chills dipping near 5 degrees below zero at times. Another round of snow showers is possible Friday night into Saturday, followed by a deeper cold snap that lingers into early next week.

Across Marion County and surrounding areas, temperatures hover in the 20s and 30s through Saturday before dropping sharply. Any melting during brief daytime breaks may refreeze after sunset, especially on bridges and ramps along I-65, I-70, and I-465. Visibility may lower during snow bursts, and stopping distances can increase fast on slushy lanes.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra travel time, and keep headlights on during snowfall. Pedestrians may notice biting winds and patches of glare ice on sidewalks. Keep phones charged, dress in layers, and check on neighbors sensitive to cold.

Snow chances ease by Sunday, but cold air remains firmly in place. Wind chills near or below zero are possible late Sunday into Monday, and additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
