Indianapolis, Indiana – Strong winds and increasing rain chances are expected tonight into early Friday as unsettled weather moves across central Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service Indianapolis, anomalously mild conditions today will give way to windy conditions tonight, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph. Southerly winds are expected to increase through the evening as rain showers spread from west to east.

Temperatures are forecast to reach the low to mid-60s today, then fall into the mid-50s to upper 50s overnight. Showers are expected to continue into Friday morning, with breezy conditions persisting through much of the day.

Forecasters note that isolated thunderstorms may develop tonight, mainly along and west of Interstate 69. A few storms could produce marginally severe wind gusts, though widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

Rain coverage is expected to decrease Friday night into Saturday, with cooler, more seasonable air returning. Flurries may be possible late Saturday night as temperatures drop.

The National Weather Service advises residents to plan for windy and potentially rainy conditions, especially if traveling or heading outdoors late tonight or early Friday.

For early-morning commuters, strong gusts could impact high-profile vehicles and make driving conditions more challenging.
