Indianapolis, Indiana – Dangerous wind chills continued Monday across Indianapolis, with forecasters warning of prolonged cold and hazardous travel conditions through at least Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, wind chills as low as -15 to -30 degrees were reported Monday morning and are expected to continue overnight and into midweek. The extreme cold follows a winter storm that brought snow to central Indiana, with blowing and drifting snow further impacting road conditions.

An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for parts of central Indiana through 11 a.m. Tuesday, while a Cold Weather Advisory continues for other areas into Monday evening. A second round of extreme cold is expected beginning 7 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday, extending the period of dangerous conditions.

Forecasters said additional light snow is possible, combined with gusty winds that may reduce visibility and create slick spots on untreated roads. Drivers are urged to use caution and limit travel where possible.

Officials warned that frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly if skin is exposed, and residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors, wear layered clothing, and check on vulnerable individuals.

The extended duration of the cold poses continued challenges for commuters, students, and outdoor workers, especially during early morning hours when wind chills will be lowest.

Residents are advised to monitor updates from the National Weather Service as the extreme cold pattern persists into the middle of the week.
