Indianapolis, IN – Mild weather continues across central Indiana on Wednesday, with temperatures climbing into the upper 40s before a major pattern shift brings heavy rain, a strong cold front, and the potential for slick travel conditions by early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service Indianapolis, Wednesday will feature a mix of clouds and light sprinkles early, followed by gradual clearing. Highs will reach 40–51°, continuing the unseasonably warm trend that began earlier in the week.
Conditions will deteriorate Thursday as a strong storm system approaches the region. Rain becomes likely during the morning and afternoon, and forecasters note that heavy rain at times is possible, including a chance for embedded thunder. High temperatures are expected to reach 51–56°, supported by breezy southerly winds ahead of the front.
By Thursday night, a sharp temperature drop arrives as colder air sweeps in. Rain is expected to transition to light snow showers, with the highest chances occurring Friday morning. While snowfall amounts will be low, untreated roads may briefly turn slick as pavement temperatures fall below freezing. Friday’s highs will struggle to reach the upper 20s to low 30s, and morning lows will dip into the upper teens.
Looking ahead to Saturday, conditions turn quieter with increasing clouds and highs returning to the mid-40s to near 50°.
Residents should stay alert for heavy rain Thursday, rapidly falling temperatures Thursday night, and potential slick spots during Friday’s commute
