INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Central Indiana woke up to its first real chill of the season Friday, with temperatures dipping into the mid-30s and frost glazing fields and windshields from Lafayette to Muncie. The National Weather Service’s Indianapolis office issued a Frost Advisory through 9 a.m., warning residents to protect tender plants and late-season crops.

According to the National Weather Service Indianapolis, areas along I-65 and east through Noblesville, Kokomo, and Rushville were most affected by the early-morning frost. Sensitive vegetation could be damaged if left uncovered. However, the cold snap will be short-lived. Warmer air begins returning Friday afternoon as sunshine dominates through the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 70s by Saturday, with a gentle south breeze helping to dry fields and warm playgrounds, parks, and pumpkin patches across central Indiana. Sunday and Columbus Day both look picture-perfect for outdoor plans, from fall festivals to leaf-viewing drives through Brown County and along U.S. 231.

Forecasters note that early risers should still prepare for brisk starts through early Saturday, with morning lows hovering near 45°F before moderating next week. Drivers on I-70 and I-74 should see clear, dry conditions through Tuesday, ideal for regional travel.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local forecasts as mid-October approaches—another cool front could bring a return to frost potential later next week. For now, fall weather enthusiasts can expect a golden, comfortable stretch ahead.
