Indianapolis, Indiana – Subfreezing temperatures and light snow chances are expected across central Indiana, prompting a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, wind chills will fall into the single digits early today as northwesterly winds continue across the region. Scattered flurries and a chance of light snow are expected, particularly across the northeastern half of central Indiana, including the Indianapolis metro area. Little to no snow accumulation is anticipated during the daytime hours.

Current conditions at Indianapolis International Airport showed temperatures near 15°F early Tuesday, with wind chills around 7°F. Winds were sustained near 13 mph, contributing to hazardous cold exposure for those outdoors.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night includes another period of light snow potential. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, the National Weather Service noted that the best chance for minor accumulation will be along and northeast of Interstate 74. Road surfaces may become slick in isolated spots, particularly during overnight hours when temperatures dip near 20°F.

Daytime highs are forecast to reach the upper 20s to mid-30s, with overnight lows remaining well below freezing through midweek. Winds are expected to gradually diminish, but cold conditions will persist.

Spotter activation is not anticipated at this time.

Commuters, students, and early-morning workers should allow extra time and dress for wind chills during peak travel hours. Residents are advised to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions, especially if traveling overnight.
