Indianapolis, Indiana – Light accumulating snow is expected Friday morning across parts of central Indiana, with the greatest impacts northeast of Indianapolis and along major commuter routes.

According to the US National Weather Service Indianapolis, scattered flurries and light snow showers are possible Thursday afternoon and evening before steadier snow develops overnight into Friday. Forecast guidance shows the highest confidence for light accumulation northeast of Interstate 65, including areas near Interstate 69, U.S. 31, and State Road 37.

Snow is expected to become more widespread toward daybreak Friday, with light accumulations continuing through the morning commute. The National Weather Service indicated up to 1 inch of snow is possible in the northeastern portion of the Indianapolis metro area, while lower totals are expected farther southwest.

In addition to snow, freezing drizzle may briefly mix in west of I-65, potentially creating slick spots on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. While icing is not expected to be widespread, even small amounts could affect early-morning travel conditions.

Probability maps shared by the National Weather Service show high chances of at least 0.1 inches of snow across Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, and surrounding communities, with the greatest threat for light accumulation highlighted north and northeast of the city.

Snow showers are expected to taper later Friday, with lingering flurries possible into the afternoon before drier conditions develop.

These conditions may be particularly relevant for commuters, students, and young workers traveling during the Friday morning rush, especially along I-465, I-65, I-69, and U.S. 31.

Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and monitor updated forecasts as precipitation timing and placement may shift slightly overnight.
