Indianapolis, IN – Light snow north of Interstate 70 could create minor slick spots overnight into Thursday morning across central Indiana.

According to the US National Weather Service Indianapolis, precipitation will push through the region tonight, beginning as a light rain and snow mix between 8 p.m. and midnight Wednesday. After midnight, snow is expected to fall mainly north of a line from Sullivan to Seymour.

Forecasters said accumulations are expected to remain light. Most areas north of I-70, including Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie and portions of the northern Indianapolis metro, may see a trace to one-tenth of an inch. Isolated locations could receive up to one-half inch before precipitation tapers off.

South of I-70, including Bloomington, Bedford and Columbus, precipitation is expected to remain mostly rain or a brief mix, limiting any measurable snowfall.

Snowfall coverage will decrease between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday, with most precipitation ending between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., especially south of I-70. Temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid-40s by Thursday afternoon, allowing any minor accumulations to melt.

While widespread travel disruptions are not anticipated, untreated bridges and overpasses along I-65, I-69 and I-70 could become briefly slick during the early morning commute. Students and early-shift workers north of Indianapolis may want to allow extra travel time.

The National Weather Service emphasized that impacts are expected to remain limited due to light totals and warming temperatures Thursday.
