Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana will see a brief stretch of calm Thursday before dangerous weekend heat and storm chances return. Sunshine and highs in the upper 80s will dominate the day, offering residents one of the few mild breaks before a sharp temperature climb.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, dry weather holds from Thursday through much of Sunday morning. Heat and humidity surge Saturday and Sunday, with heat indices reaching the upper 90s to just over 100°F. The hot stretch will be followed by a return of isolated thunderstorms by Sunday afternoon, continuing into early next week.
Residents in Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan, and surrounding counties should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat this weekend. Hydrate frequently, avoid strenuous work during the hottest hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
