INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The first true winter weather system of December is sweeping into central Indiana, blanketing roads with 2 to 4 inches of snow by early Tuesday. Flakes are already flying west of Indianapolis as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. tonight through 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow will intensify after sunset, gradually spreading east across the I-70 corridor and surrounding counties. The heaviest snowfall rates are expected between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., leading to slick, snow-covered roads and reduced visibility for drivers. Conditions will begin improving after daybreak Tuesday, though untreated roads may stay icy through mid-morning.

Temperatures hold near 24°F overnight, cold enough for snow to stick immediately to pavement. Winds remain light, but drifting may occur in open areas. Tuesday will bring mostly cloudy skies with highs near 26°F, offering little melting potential before another shot of snow returns Wednesday night into Friday.

Motorists should allow extra time for morning commutes, particularly along I-65, I-69, and I-465. Plow crews will be active overnight, but early commuters may still face patchy black ice and slushy intersections.

By midweek, highs hover in the mid-30s, with another chance of light snow late Wednesday. Lows fall into the teens Thursday and Friday, marking a sharp December chill for Indiana residents.
