Indianapolis, IN — Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late tonight across central Indiana, with a marginal risk of severe storms early Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered storms may form overnight before strengthening during the early morning hours Saturday.
Forecasters say the primary window for severe weather is between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. Saturday, when a few storms could produce damaging wind gusts.
The region is currently under a Level 1 of 5 severe weather risk, meaning isolated severe storms are possible.
While damaging winds are the main concern, the National Weather Service notes large hail and localized flooding could also occur in stronger storms.
Cities including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Bloomington, Muncie and Terre Haute could see storms develop during the overnight hours and continue into Saturday morning.
Officials encourage residents to monitor forecast updates and ensure multiple ways to receive weather warnings, particularly while storms move through early in the day.
If severe storms develop, impacts could include downed tree limbs, brief power outages and hazardous driving conditions during the morning hours.
Students, early-shift workers and morning commuters across central Indiana may want to keep weather alerts active as storms move through the region.
