Indianapolis, Indiana – Winter’s chill remains firmly in place across central Indiana as January ends and February begins, though temperatures are expected to slowly moderate in the days ahead.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, cold conditions will persist, even as daytime temperatures gradually climb closer to seasonal levels. Flurries or scattered snow showers are possible at times today, again Sunday night into Monday, and once more Monday night into Tuesday.

While no significant accumulation is expected, forecasters note that brief bursts of flurries could reduce visibility, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Any snow showers that develop are expected to be light and intermittent.

Travelers along Interstate 70, Interstate 65, Interstate 74, and Interstate 69 should remain alert for occasional slick spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses where colder pavement temperatures can allow light snow to stick briefly.

Forecast graphics from the National Weather Service show daytime highs generally ranging from the upper teens to upper 20s through early next week, with overnight lows remaining in the single digits and teens. Northern portions of the state may see slightly higher chances for flurries during this period.

While temperatures are not expected to reach extreme cold levels, the ongoing chill means prolonged exposure outdoors can still pose risks, especially without proper winter clothing. Officials advise wearing layers and limiting time outside during colder periods.

This update may be especially relevant for commuters, students, and overnight workers, as flurries could coincide with travel times despite the lack of major snowfall.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve through the weekend and into early next week, particularly if snow shower chances increase.
