Indianapolis, Indiana – A light round of snow could coat I-465 and I-70 before 7 a.m. Monday, creating slick spots just in time for the morning commute across central Indiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, light but measurable snow is possible Sunday night into Monday morning. Most areas are expected to receive less than 1 inch, though a few tenths of an inch could accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces, especially across southwestern counties.
Road impacts will depend heavily on timing and surface temperatures. Snow is expected to fall overnight and during the early morning hours before transitioning to rain as temperatures rise above freezing by mid to late Monday morning. That changeover should help limit longer-lasting travel disruptions.
Drivers along I-65, I-69 and I-70 may encounter patchy slick conditions on bridges and overpasses before sunrise Monday. In Bloomington and along State Road 37, minor accumulation could briefly reduce visibility during steadier bursts. Farther north toward Lafayette and Muncie, lighter totals are anticipated, but untreated surfaces may still become slippery.
Snow should melt quickly Monday as afternoon temperatures climb well above freezing. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, reduce speed during periods of snowfall and check INDOT road updates before heading out early Monday. Additional statements may be issued if snowfall coverage expands overnight Sunday.
