Indianapolis, Indiana – Another frigid night is expected across central Indiana, with dangerously low wind chills and light snow creating potential travel hazards through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Temperatures overnight are forecast to fall between 0 and 10 degrees below zero, with the coldest readings expected east of Indianapolis. Gusty winds will push wind chill values as low as -10 to -20 degrees, particularly along and east of Interstate 69, prompting a Cold Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday.
In addition to the extreme cold, forecasters say there is a chance for light snow between midnight and noon Saturday, with the highest likelihood from Indianapolis northward. Snow amounts are expected to be light, generally a dusting, but slick road conditions may still develop due to cold pavement temperatures. Areas along I-69, I-465, I-70, and I-74 could see reduced traction, especially on bridges and overpasses.
While snowfall will be limited, even small accumulations can quickly freeze, increasing the risk of black ice during early morning travel. Visibility reductions may occur briefly during periods of snow, particularly before daybreak.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia. Those traveling overnight or early Saturday should slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and monitor road conditions before departing.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually later Saturday as snow chances end and winds ease, though cold temperatures will persist. Additional updates may be issued as conditions evolve.
