Indianapolis, IN – The Indiana State Police Lowell Post is strengthening its patrol and enforcement capabilities with the addition of two newly trained K-9 teams following a formal graduation ceremony held last Wednesday.
According to Indiana State Police, Trooper Nicholas Isajczuk and his K-9 partner, Caezar, along with Trooper Justin Baumeister and his K-9 partner, Ramze, were among eight teams statewide to successfully graduate from the 16th Indiana State Police K-9 Training School. The ceremony took place at the Indiana State Police Museum in Indianapolis.
Both Caezar and Ramze are 15-month-old Belgian Malinois, a breed widely used in law enforcement for its intelligence, agility, and drive. The two dogs will now be officially assigned to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, serving communities across Lake County and the greater Northwest Indiana region.
The newly certified teams completed an intensive 12-week training program totaling more than 480 hours of instruction. Training areas included obedience, tracking, building searches, evidence recovery, suspect apprehension, narcotics detection, and handler protection.
State police officials say K-9 teams play a critical role in patrol operations, often assisting with locating missing persons, tracking suspects, detecting illegal drugs, and enhancing officer safety during high-risk situations.
Residents in the Lowell area and surrounding communities may begin seeing the new K-9 teams on patrol in the coming days as they integrate into daily operations.
