Indianapolis, IN – A 27-year-old Indianapolis man was arrested Thursday in connection with two alleged sexual assaults along the Monon Trail earlier this month.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), detectives arrested Larry Duerson on Thursday, August 28, after locating him in the 3400 block of North Keystone Avenue. The IMPD-FBI Violent Crime Task Force and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers assisted in the arrest, which police said occurred without incident.

The arrest followed two separate incidents that police allege occurred on the Monon Trail. On Friday, August 8, officers responded to a report of an attempted rape where a woman was attacked and sustained multiple injuries before bystanders intervened. On Thursday, August 14, another woman reported being attacked in a similar manner. Detectives later determined the two incidents were likely connected.

Police said Duerson was booked on preliminary felony charges of kidnapping, attempted rape, and strangulation. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case to determine final charges. Investigators continue to review forensic evidence and interview witnesses.

IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said in a statement that the alleged assaults were “violent and senseless attacks” on residents using the popular trail. He credited detectives, forensic specialists, and community members who stepped in to help the victims for assisting in the quick identification and arrest of the suspect.

Authorities stressed that Duerson remains innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
