Indianapolis, IN – Overnight violence in Indianapolis left residents on edge after two police officers were attacked while responding to a disturbance call, according to a statement released Wednesday by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Chief Chris Bailey.
Chief Bailey said the city endured a “difficult night,” with multiple violent incidents across the community. “My heart is heavy after the violence the Indianapolis community experienced over the last 24 hours,” Bailey said. “Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all who were impacted by the violence.”
According to IMPD, during one of the incidents, two officers came under fire when an individual allegedly pulled a gun and fired in their direction. Police confirmed no injuries occurred. Chief Bailey credited the officers’ quick response and training for safely resolving the situation.
Detectives continue investigating the string of overnight violence, working to identify and hold those responsible accountable. “I am incredibly proud of their courage and professionalism,” Bailey added.
