Drivers traveling along Rockville Road (U.S. 36) between Indianapolis and Avon will encounter intermittent lane closures as utility relocation work begins.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), single-lane closures will be in effect in both directions west of I-465, primarily between Raceway Road and Girls School Road. These closures allow crews to safely relocate utilities ahead of major construction as part of the Modern Rockville Road improvement project.
Work in this phase is expected to continue through December 2025, though timelines may shift due to weather. The full project aims to expand capacity with improved roads, bridges, and storm drainage, with major construction planned for 2026 and 2027. INDOT advises motorists to drive cautiously through the work zone.
The Modern Rockville Road project seeks to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce crash risks at left-turn points, and improve pedestrian accessibility with new sidewalks. More details can be found at modernrockville.com.
