Indianapolis, IN – A routine act of assistance turned critical for Indiana State Trooper Azariah Keith on January 20, 2023. According to Indiana State Police, Trooper Keith was hit and critically injured while helping a motorist with a flat tire on I-65 near the 116 mile marker in Indianapolis. The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Keith had successfully assisted the motorist and was storing his equipment when a vehicle, driven by 22-year-old Armaandeep Singh of Indianapolis, reportedly lost control. Singh’s vehicle allegedly swerved to avoid another trooper’s car, crashed into the median barrier, and subsequently struck Trooper Keith and his police vehicle. Singh, suspected of operating under the influence, has been arrested and faces preliminary charges.
The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for extensive investigation and scene processing. Trooper Keith is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable but serious condition. The investigation is ongoing, and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine final charges. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
