Indianapolis, IN – A family of five, with another child on the way, was displaced Friday morning after a fire that began in the backyard spread to their home, causing significant damage, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD).
The blaze was reported around 8:54 a.m., and the family, who had recently moved into the home in August, managed to escape safely. One adult was transported to Eskenazi Hospital for evaluation, while a cat received treatment at Noah’s Animal Hospital. Two dogs and two geckos were also safely evacuated by the family.
According to IFD, firefighters from both Indianapolis and the City of Lawrence Fire Department made an aggressive attack on the fire, bringing it under control within 30 minutes. One firefighter sustained a minor injury at the scene.
IFD Victims Assistance teams are now working with the Red Cross to help the displaced family find temporary housing and support.
