Indianapolis, Indiana – Scattered snow showers are expected to return to central Indiana on Wednesday as colder air moves in behind a strong cold front, bringing the potential for slick travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, snow showers will develop Wednesday morning and may persist through Wednesday night, with some activity lingering into early Thursday morning. Most areas are expected to receive a dusting of snow, but north-central Indiana could see accumulations around 1 inch.
Forecasters say temperatures will fall into the 20s during the afternoon and early evening Wednesday, allowing snow showers to accumulate more easily on untreated surfaces. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, even small accumulations could create slick spots on roads, particularly overnight.
The Weather Service warns that bridges and overpasses may become icy, especially where snow showers linger into the early morning hours Thursday. Any thin coating of snow or ice could reduce traction and increase stopping distances.
The highest snow totals are expected across the northern portions of central Indiana, while areas farther south are more likely to see intermittent snow showers with little accumulation.
Communities including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Kokomo, Marion, Muncie, and surrounding areas should be prepared for changing road conditions late Wednesday and during the Thursday morning commute.
No winter weather advisories were issued with this update, but officials encourage drivers to use caution, slow down, and allow extra travel time if snow showers persist overnight.
Residents are advised to continue monitoring forecasts as the timing and coverage of snow showers become clearer
