Indianapolis, Indiana – Wind chills as low as -25°F will grip much of Indiana Monday night into Tuesday morning, triggering an Extreme Cold Warning across central and southern parts of the state until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Conditions this severe can lead to frostbite in minutes, with the National Weather Service urging residents to limit outdoor exposure and wear multiple insulating layers if travel is unavoidable.

According to the NWS Indianapolis, the coldest wind chills will hit overnight Monday, especially in areas like Muncie, Shelbyville, and Kokomo, where values could dip to -24°F. Indianapolis is projected to feel like -21°F by early Tuesday, while wind chills near -15°F to -20°F stretch as far south as Bloomington and Terre Haute.

The brutal cold won’t let up quickly. Wind chills below -10°F will persist across much of Indiana through the end of the week, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Commuters are urged to start their vehicles early, allow extra time for travel, and avoid walking long distances outdoors.

Utility companies advise checking heat systems and insulating pipes, while schools and municipalities may announce delays or closures depending on Tuesday’s morning conditions. Additional advisories are possible as the Arctic air lingers.
