Indianapolis, IN – Police in Indianapolis say a 19-year-old man was arrested late Monday night following an armed carjacking that ended in a vehicle crash just two hours later.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. on September 29, 2025, to the 3200 block of North Central Avenue. A woman reported being held at gunpoint by a man who allegedly stole her car keys and fled the scene in her vehicle.

IMPD North District officers quickly began searching for the suspect and the stolen vehicle. Less than two hours later, police say the stolen car was found crashed near the intersection of East 16th Street and Alabama Street. Witnesses reported seeing a man flee the scene on foot.

Officers located the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Steven Baker III, and took him into custody. He was arrested on preliminary charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, according to IMPD.

Police emphasized that an arrest is merely an accusation, and Baker should be considered innocent until proven guilty in court. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine the final charges.
