Indianapolis, IN – No serious injuries were reported after a 26-year-old woman crashed into an Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) vehicle responding to a fire call Saturday afternoon, officials confirmed.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, the crash happened at 1:16 p.m. at the intersection of 38th Street and Georgetown Road as two IFD vehicles were heading east toward a working fire on Voight Drive. The lead emergency vehicle (EDO) was making a left turn with lights and sirens activated when the woman, driving a Toyota Camry, allegedly sped through stopped traffic and collided with the EDO’s passenger side rear panel.
The force of the collision caused the emergency vehicle to spin 180 degrees and land on the windshield of a nearby Ford Fusion. The 18-year-old male driver of the Fusion was not injured but was understandably shaken.
Officials said the woman was transported to Eskenazi Hospital with minor injuries. The IFD officer driving the EDO was checked and released after a field sobriety test returned 0.00. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is investigating.
