Indianapolis, IN – Moderate snowfall is expected to move into central Indiana Thursday night, with the potential for 2 to 4 inches of accumulation along the I-74 corridor, according to the National Weather Service Indianapolis.

Forecasters say confidence is increasing that a band of snow will develop across central parts of the state Thursday evening and persist into Friday morning, creating slick and hazardous travel conditions for the early commute.

The greatest likelihood of 2 inches or more of snow extends from Terre Haute through Indianapolis to Greensburg, where snow could fall steadily overnight. Areas north and south of this band may see lighter amounts, with totals tapering to a dusting or trace.

“Snow-covered roads will likely lead to difficult travel, especially Thursday night into Friday morning,” meteorologists said in their latest update. The advisory notes that road conditions could deteriorate quickly as snow accumulates on untreated surfaces.

The system is expected to bring moderate snowfall intensity, with some localized pockets of heavier accumulation depending on storm track. Temperatures will remain near or below freezing, increasing the risk of icy conditions.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, slow down, and monitor INDOT traffic updates and weather.gov/ind for the latest information before heading out Friday morning.
