Indianapolis, IN – Four Indianapolis Fire Department firefighters were hospitalized after their firetruck crashed while en route to an accident Friday morning.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, the crew of TAC43 was responding to an accident at 30th Street and Massachusetts Avenue with lights and sirens activated. While attempting to maneuver around slowed traffic and a “wide load” escorted by Indiana State Police officers, the truck lost control. All four firefighters sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious but non-life-threatening. They were promptly transported to area hospitals by Indianapolis EMS medics for treatment. The firefighters’ injuries include fractures, cuts, and bruises, but all are expected to recover fully.
The efforts of the three Indiana State Police officers to stop and render aid immediately following the accident were greatly appreciated. Their quick response ensured the injured firefighters received timely medical attention. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
