Indianapolis, IN – Indianapolis firefighters responded to a major blaze early Monday morning at 2016 North College Avenue. The fire engulfed two vacant buildings and threatened an occupied structure nearby, prompting firefighters to quickly call for a second alarm.
The Indianapolis Fire Department reported that upon arrival, heavy flames were pushing from the vacant buildings. Firefighters prioritized protecting the occupied structure next door and focused on controlling the fire’s spread. Within minutes, the initial fire structure collapsed from the intense heat, creating a hazardous environment for the team.
A firefighter sustained minor injuries during the incident and was taken to Methodist Hospital. Crews spent 1.5 hours bringing the fire under control. According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
