Indianapolis, IN – A firefighter sustained injuries while responding to a domestic dispute that escalated into arson on Friday evening in Indianapolis. The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Mount St. when police and firefighters were called to the scene where a 58-year-old man had allegedly set his home on fire following a confrontation.

IMPD officers arrived to find the man had barricaded himself inside the burning residence. After forcibly entering the home, officers apprehended the suspect, who had refused to cooperate. Despite their efforts, the fire continued to spread, eventually reaching a vehicle parked outside.

Firefighters from the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) quickly launched an aggressive attack on the flames. During the operation, one firefighter was injured, reportedly due to multiple rounds of ammunition igniting within the vehicle. The firefighter was transported to Methodist Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes, but not before causing significant damage to the home and displacing two adults. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the domestic dispute and the resulting arson. The suspect is in custody and faces potential charges related to the incident.
