Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is gearing up for a significant weather shift this week as rain chances increase Tuesday night into Wednesday, followed by periods of snow showers Wednesday evening through Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Today remains cold but calm, with highs in the mid-20s to lower 30s. Temperatures begin a temporary warm-up Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs reaching the upper 30s Tuesday and near 46° on Wednesday ahead of incoming precipitation.
Rain arrives late Tuesday night and continues into Wednesday, with a transition to snow showers by Wednesday evening. Light snow will remain possible at times through Friday as colder air settles in. While widespread accumulations are not expected, brief reductions in visibility and slick travel spots cannot be ruled out, especially during the Thursday and Friday morning commutes.
By late week, an arctic airmass sweeps into Indiana, sending temperatures plunging into the teens and single digits overnight. Forecast highs by Saturday will struggle to reach the upper teens.
The NWS emphasizes that conditions will feel dramatically colder heading into the weekend, marking one of the most frigid stretches so far this season.
