Schererville, IN – The Schererville Police Department is once again hosting its popular Women’s Self-Defense Class on Tuesday, November 25, at 6:00 p.m. The free session will take place at the Schererville Community Center, with check-ins beginning at 5:00 p.m.

According to the Schererville Police Department, the class will be led by Corporal Quiroga, Corporal Leto, Corporal Biella, and Officer Djordjevich — all certified defensive tactics instructors. The training is open to all women, including non-residents, and aims to teach practical, easy-to-remember moves that could make a difference in real-life situations.

Participants will learn techniques to improve awareness, avoid danger, and build confidence through simple but effective strategies suitable for any skill level. No prior experience is required.

Women aged 16–17 must attend with a parent or legal guardian. Applications can be picked up at the police department’s Records Department window between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Police urge residents to register early, as spots typically fill up quickly.

For more details, contact Corporal Adam Biella at abiella@schererville.org or Corporal Josette Quiroga at jquiroga@schererville.org, or call (219) 322-5000.
