Logansport, IN – A Cass County woman has been sentenced to nearly four decades in prison after pleading guilty to dealing drugs that allegedly led to a fatal overdose.
According to the Cass County Prosecutorโs Office, 30-year-old Kayla M. Lincoln of Logansport was sentenced Thursday to 38 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony. The ruling followed her open plea entered on May 22.
Court documents show the case stemmed from a September 2, 2023, incident in which a victim was found unresponsive around noon after allegedly using drugs supplied by Lincoln. Responding officers with the Logansport Police Department and Cass County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be combined intoxication from fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Investigators allege Lincoln knowingly provided the substances despite being aware that the victim had been clean. Authorities said Lincoln obtained the drugs from co-defendant Anton Matthews, using Amber Bradley as a go-between. Bradley reportedly drove Lincoln to the victimโs home, where the drugs were exchanged for money. The victim succumbed to an overdose just hours later.
Judge Lisa Swaim handed down the 38-year sentence, suspending the last three years to probation. Bradley had previously received a 20-year sentence, while Matthews was sentenced to 40 years for their roles in the case.
Cass County Prosecutor Noah Schafer praised law enforcementโs work, stating that those who distribute fentanyl and other deadly substances are โliteral merchants of deathโ and pledged continued efforts to pursue serious penalties for offenders.
