Rensselaer, IN – A Rensselaer woman was arrested last month after police connected her to a hit-and-run crash and later discovered illegal substances during a search of her vehicle.

According to the Rensselaer Police Department, officers responded on July 31 to a crash at Washington and Cullen Streets. Witnesses reported that a gray passenger car crossed into the westbound lane of Washington Street, struck a garbage can and a traffic light support pole, then fled the scene without stopping. Investigators collected debris from the car that was left behind.

The following morning, police received an anonymous tip linking the damaged vehicle to 26-year-old Megan Nee. Officers located the car at her residence on South Melville Street, where they found damage consistent with the reported crash. Police said the vehicle also had two flat tires and one wheel nearly off its rim.

After officers impounded the car and obtained a search warrant, they allegedly discovered drug paraphernalia along with suspected marijuana and cocaine. During questioning, police said Nee admitted to leaving the scene of the crash, explaining that she leaned over to pick up a dropped item and lost control.

A warrant was issued for Nee’s arrest, and she was taken into custody on Aug. 20. She faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and a Level 6 felony charge for possession of cocaine.

Nee was booked into custody following her arrest. Authorities emphasized that all subjects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
