Indiana – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect early Friday across much of Indiana, with light snowfall creating slick road conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, additional snow accumulations of up to one inch are possible before the advisory expires at 10 a.m. EST. While snowfall amounts are limited, cold pavement temperatures may allow snow to accumulate quickly on untreated roads.
The advisory covers a wide portion of the state, including central, west central, southwest, south central, and southeast Indiana. Affected areas include Indianapolis, Lafayette, Terre Haute, Bloomington, Columbus, Shelbyville, Greensburg, Vincennes, Bedford, Martinsville, Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, and West Lafayette, among many others.
Forecasters warn that slippery road conditions are likely, especially on bridges, overpasses, ramps, and secondary roads. The timing of the snow is expected to impact the Friday morning commute, particularly in urban corridors where traffic volumes are higher.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Even light snow can create hazardous conditions when combined with freezing temperatures.
Motorists can check the latest travel conditions by dialing 511, Indiana’s official road information system, for real-time updates on road status and potential delays.
The advisory is expected to end by mid-morning, though isolated slick spots may persist on untreated surfaces into the late morning hours.
