Fort Wayne, IN – The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio, effective from 7 a.m. Saturday through 7 p.m. Sunday.
Forecasters expect heavy snow to develop early Saturday morning and continue through the weekend, with 8 to 14 inches possible north of U.S. Route 24 and 4 to 9 inches to the south. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will create blowing and drifting snow, leading to periods of near-zero visibility and dangerous road conditions.
The warning covers a wide area including South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Hillsdale, Van Wert, Cass County (MI), and Williams County (OH). The storm is expected to impact both Saturday and Sunday travel, with hazardous conditions on I-69, I-80/90, and U.S. 30.
Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and blankets in vehicles. Drivers can check current road conditions by calling 511 in Indiana, Michigan, or Ohio.
Snow will gradually taper off Sunday evening, though slick and snow-packed roads are likely to persist into Monday morning.
