Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana residents are urged to prepare for hazardous weather conditions Thursday morning as gusty winds and plummeting temperatures create challenges. A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. for much of the region, with gusts reaching 55 mph and wind chills dropping as low as -5 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), winds from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph will persist overnight, potentially toppling unsecured objects and creating risks for drivers. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and secure loose outdoor items. Tree limbs may be brought down, leading to scattered power outages.
Thursday will remain blustery but mostly sunny, with a high near 23°F and wind chills making it feel closer to -7°F. Conditions improve slightly by Thursday night, as winds calm and temperatures drop to a low near 12°F.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast offers some relief. Friday will bring sunny skies and milder conditions, with highs near 29°F. By Saturday, highs reach 40°F under clear skies. A chance of rain enters the forecast on Sunday, with highs nearing 49°F.
Drivers should remain cautious Thursday morning as icy roads, combined with high winds, may make travel treacherous. Those commuting early are advised to leave extra time and drive carefully.
