South Bend, IN – Northern Indiana is bracing for a stretch of frigid temperatures and light snow through early next week, as Arctic air settles into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, wind chills this morning and again Sunday night into Monday night could plunge to 5 to 15 degrees below zero. Highs will remain in the 20s and low 30s through Sunday before dropping into the teens and 20s early next week.

Light snow and patchy freezing drizzle are possible tonight with little to no accumulation expected. However, a stronger wave Saturday night into Sunday could bring 1 to 3 inches of snow, with heavier totals near Lake Michigan where lake enhancement is possible.

Drivers should prepare for slick travel conditions late Saturday into Sunday morning and stay alert for rapidly changing visibility near the lake. Bitterly cold air will persist into Monday, keeping wind chills dangerously low during the morning commute.
