According to the National Weather Service, heat index values could spike as high as 97°F by mid-afternoon Wednesday, with scattered storms developing after 2 p.m. across Allen, Elkhart, Noble, and surrounding counties. Calm morning winds will give way to 5 mph gusts, with showers most likely from 2 p.m. through early evening.
Cities along US-30 and I-69 corridors, including Warsaw, Columbia City, and Fort Wayne, should prepare for pop-up showers and dangerous heat. Those working outside are urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and avoid direct sun exposure between noon and 5 p.m.
Storm chances continue into Wednesday night, with a 50% chance of scattered storms and locally heavy rain between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday. No severe weather is expected, but isolated lightning and gusts could affect outdoor plans.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Thursday clears out with sunshine and highs in the upper 70s. By Friday, temperatures remain mild with highs near 78°F under mostly sunny skies. The weekend looks ideal for outdoor activities, with clear skies and highs climbing back toward 83°F by Monday, August 4.
