The warmest day of the month occurred on Aug. 16 when the temperature climbed to 94 degrees. South Bend’s coolest reading came on Aug. 29, when the thermometer dipped to 45 degrees.

Rainfall totals in South Bend measured 3.62 inches, just 0.39 inches below normal. That amount was enough to classify the month as the 57th wettest August on record for the city.

Meteorologists noted that the month brought sharp swings in temperatures across the region, ranging from the low to mid-90s on the warmest afternoons to the low and mid-40s during cooler mornings.
