Indianapolis, IN – Indiana’s winter chill will hang on through mid-December, but skies are expected to stay mostly dry as Arctic air settles in for another week. According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 Day Outlook, issued December 1, below-normal temperatures will dominate December 9–15, while precipitation chances remain low statewide.

Forecasters say daytime highs will hover in the 30s and low 40s, while nighttime lows dip into the 20s. Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Evansville can expect bright, crisp afternoons and cold, frosty mornings — a classic early-winter setup with plenty of sunshine but little moisture.

NOAA’s outlook shows that while the Great Lakes region remains cold, the storm track will shift east, leaving much of Indiana under a cold but dry regime. Winds will stay light to moderate, adding to the chill but not bringing snow.

In sharp contrast, much of the West Coast, Southwest, and Texas will see above-average warmth and dry weather, creating a coast-to-coast split in temperature trends.

For Indiana, the Arctic chill will remain the dominant feature through mid-December. Any potential warm-up appears minor and temporary, with forecasters expecting temperatures to stay below normal well into the month.
