Indianapolis, IN – Drivers across Indianapolis could face slick roads before the Monday morning commute as rain quickly transitions to snow overnight following a brief surge of springlike warmth this weekend.
Saturday remains mostly cloudy with a few sprinkles or flurries possible before noon, while temperatures climb to around 51°F across Marion County and surrounding central Indiana communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, temperatures surge Sunday with highs reaching around 71°F, accompanied by breezy conditions and south wind gusts up to 46 mph. A few showers may develop after 2 p.m. Sunday before steadier rain arrives during the evening.
The colder air arrives late Sunday night as rain changes to snow between about 11 p.m. and early Monday morning. Winds may continue gusting above 30 mph, creating periods of reduced visibility as snow showers move through the region.
Snowfall totals could reach 0.25 to 0.75 inches, which may produce slick spots on major routes including I-65, I-70, and I-465 during the early commute Monday.
Snow showers taper Monday afternoon with highs near 31°F, followed by colder conditions Monday night as temperatures drop toward 16°F. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 30°F, though another chance of snow may develop across central Indiana by midweek.
