Indianapolis, IN – Indiana is preparing for a bitter taste of winter early next week as Arctic air barrels into the state, sending temperatures into the 20s and ending the growing season statewide. According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, a powerful cold front will cross the region Monday, November 10, bringing a sharp temperature drop and widespread frost and freeze conditions by early Tuesday, November 11.

Forecast lows are expected to fall to around 24°F in Indianapolis, 22°F in Fort Wayne, and 26°F in Evansville, with the coldest readings across northern and eastern Indiana. Wind chills will make it feel even colder — as low as the upper-teens across Fort Wayne and Kokomo overnight.

The National Weather Service offices in Indianapolis and Northern Indiana have issued freeze warnings across nearly the entire state. Gusty northwest winds of 25–35 mph will follow the front, ushering in dry but frigid air. According to the Weather Prediction Center’s Day 3–7 Hazards Outlook, Indiana lies at the core of a vast “Frost/Freeze” corridor extending from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes.

Tuesday’s highs will struggle to reach the low-40s statewide, nearly 20 degrees below average for mid-November. Skies will remain clear but cold through Tuesday night, with another freeze expected before gradual warming midweek.

Forecasters say this Arctic outbreak is among the earliest and most widespread in recent years, marking a rapid shift from the state’s unusually warm start to November.

Residents should bring pets indoors, wrap exposed plumbing, and protect plants before temperatures tumble Monday night.
